Why finishing the regeneration matters
A DPF regeneration needs a stretch of uninterrupted driving to actually finish burning off the soot it has collected. Repeatedly cutting it short — engine switched off, or driving too slowly before it completes — can lead to real problems, including:
- Soot building up faster than the filter can clear it, meaning more frequent and more difficult regenerations
- In the worst cases, a costly forced cleaning or DPF replacement
- Among the more serious risks, diesel fuel diluting into the engine oil — a known consequence of repeatedly incomplete regenerations — which can cause significant engine damage
Knowing exactly when a regeneration is still in progress is the whole point of BIM DPF GUARD — so you can plan those extra few minutes on the road instead of interrupting it halfway.
Which cars does it support?
BIM DPF GUARD reads data directly from your car's own diesel engine control unit (DDE), the same way tools like bimmer-tool or Carista do — not invented or estimated. Confirmed on BMW F/G-series models with the B47 (4-cyl) and B47D engine family. Older E-series models (e.g. E60/E61/E81/E90) are not currently supported — their DDE rejects the data-reading method this app relies on. Coverage is expanding as more real F/G-series cars get tested.
